Overview

Maggi Real Coconut Milk Powder is a spray-dried coconut milk powder in a 300 g (10.6 oz) carton, made with Sri Lankan coconuts. Stir it into warm water to make coconut milk for Sri Lankan curries, kiri hodi, rice dishes and desserts, in as much or as little quantity as the recipe needs. The pack keeps in the cupboard, so there is no can to finish at once. The pack carries the SLS 1309 mark.

How to use

Per Maggi's Sri Lankan recipe: for thick coconut milk dissolve 3 tablespoons of powder in 1½ cups of warm water; for thin coconut milk dissolve 1½ tablespoons in 1½ cups of warm water. Stir until smooth. In a curry, add the thin milk first and bring to a boil, then stir in the thick milk near the end and cook a few more minutes. Use more powder for richer milk or more water for a lighter one.

What it is

Coconut milk dried to a fine powder that dissolves in warm water. It gives the same thick (miti kiri) or thin (diya kiri) coconut milk that Sri Lankan recipes call for, with a long cupboard life and no refrigeration before opening.

How to use

Maggi's Sri Lankan recipe uses 3 tablespoons of powder dissolved in 1½ cups of warm water for thick coconut milk, and 1½ tablespoons in 1½ cups of warm water for thin coconut milk. Stir until smooth. For a curry, add the thin milk first and bring it to a boil, then stir in the thick milk near the end and cook for a few more minutes. Use more powder for richer milk or more water for a lighter one.

FAQs

How do I make coconut milk from the powder?

Maggi's recipe uses 3 tablespoons of powder in 1½ cups of warm water for thick milk and 1½ tablespoons in 1½ cups of warm water for thin milk. Stir until smooth and adjust to taste.

What is the difference between thick and thin coconut milk?

Thick coconut milk (miti kiri) is the rich first extraction added at the end of cooking. Thin coconut milk (diya kiri) is the lighter second extraction used to simmer curries first. With powder, you make each by changing how much powder you use.

Is it dairy-free or vegan?

We have not confirmed this for the pack you receive, and some coconut milk powders contain milk protein. Check the ingredient list and allergen statement on the pack.

Does the powder need refrigerating?

No. Keep the dry powder in a cool, dry place with the pack closed. Refrigerate only the coconut milk you have mixed.

Can I use it in desserts?

Yes. Mix it as you would for a curry and use it in kiribath, custards, watalappam and other sweet dishes.
