Overview
MD Beli Cream is a thick Sri Lankan fruit cream made from beli (bael or wood apple, Aegle marmelos) pulp, sugar and citric acid, sold in a 650 g can. It is the ready-made base for beli drink, the cooling, fragrant amber drink Sri Lankans enjoy chilled. Stir a spoonful into cold water, add ice and sweeten to taste. The manufacturer states it is thermally sterilised and contains no preservatives.
Storage & serving
Spoon the cream into a glass, add cold water (or chilled milk), stir well until smooth and add ice. Start with a little cream and add more to taste; the amount depends on how strong you like it, as no fixed ratio is given by the manufacturer. Strain if you prefer a smooth drink. It also works as a topping for ice cream, and as a spread or filling.
What it is
The soft pulp of the beli fruit, cooked with sugar and sharpened with a little citric acid into a thick, jam-like cream with a floral, slightly smoky-sweet flavour. Beli drink is a traditional Sri Lankan refreshment and the fruit is also valued in Ayurvedic tradition; Taprovan makes no health claims for this product.

What is beli (bael) fruit?
Beli, also called bael or wood apple (Aegle marmelos), is a hard-shelled fruit with fragrant orange pulp, widely used in Sri Lanka and India for drinks and sweets.
How do I make beli drink?
