MD Chicken Curry Mix is a ready-made Sri Lankan spice paste for chicken curry, sold in a 360 g (12.70 oz) glass jar. It is a thick, tangy mix of vinegar, tamarind, onion, chilli and roasted-style curry spices. The label directions are simple: marinate the chicken with the mixture for 20 minutes, and no additional ingredients are needed.
How to use
What it is
A concentrated Sri Lankan curry paste made for chicken. The base is vinegar, salt and tamarind with onion, chilli, coriander, cumin, pepper, cloves, rice flour, garlic, mustard, cinnamon and cardamom. It gives a sour, spicy, red-brown curry rather than a creamy one.
Serving ideas
Chicken curry with white or red rice and a coconut sambol; with string hoppers and pol sambol for dinner; with roti or bread; as a marinade for chicken to pan-fry or grill.

FAQs
Do I need to add other spices?
The label says no additional ingredients are needed; you simply marinate the chicken with the mix for 20 minutes. Many cooks still add curry leaves, coconut milk or a little water to taste.
Is it spicy?
It is a sour and spicy paste with chilli, pepper and cloves. Add it gradually and taste, especially if you are sensitive to heat.
Does it contain mustard or other allergens?
Mustard is on the ingredient list. Check the jar for the full allergen information.
Is it halal?
The label carries a halal mark. The certifying body is not named on the product photo, so ask us if you need the certificate details.
How long does an opened jar keep?
Refrigerate after opening and use a clean, dry spoon each time. Check the date printed on the jar, and discard it if you see mould or notice an off smell.
