Overview

MD Mango Chutney is a sweet-and-sour Sri Lankan mango chutney sold in a glass jar. The label names it Original Mango Chutney in English, Sinhala and Tamil. It is the dark, jam-like relish spooned beside rice and curry, yellow rice and biryani, spread on bread and served with cutlets and short eats.

How to use

Serve a tablespoon beside rice and curry, yellow rice, biryani or lamprais, spread on bread or roti, or use as a dip for cutlets, patties and short eats. It also works as a glaze for grilled chicken and as a sandwich spread with cheese. Use a clean, dry spoon and refrigerate after opening.

What it is

A thick, dark, jam-like relish cooked from mango pieces with sugar and vinegar and seasoned with warm spices. It is sweeter and smoother than a raw Indian pickle-style chutney and is a standard table condiment in Sri Lankan homes and restaurants.

Serving ideas

A spoonful on the side of a rice-and-curry plate; spread in a cheese sandwich; stirred into mayonnaise for a sweet-tangy dip; spooned over cream cheese on crackers.
